ALKALINE PROPERTY – The importance of Alkaline foods

The pH level of our internal fluids affects every living cells in our body. When we have pH imbalance, almost all systems in our body are affected resulting to various diseases like cardiovascular diseases, allergies, fatigue, premature aging, obesity and cancer.


The pH scale ranges from 0 (extremely acidic) to 14 (extremely alkaline). If a food or a substance has a pH of seven (7.0), it is considered neutral. If it falls below 7.0, the pH is acidic or if the pH level is above 7.0, it is alkaline.

Human blood pH should be slightly alkaline, with a pH of 7.35 to 7.45. Below or above this range would lead to body dysfunctions. An acidic pH can occur from, an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. The body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals. If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, acids will build up in the cells. An acidic environment will now cause the impairment of ATP or energy production, decreases enzymatic reactions, decreases protein synthesis, decreases vitamins, minerals and other nutrients absorption, impaired detoxification process, decreases the ability to repair damaged cells, increases the risk of developing tumor or cancer cells and the body becomes more susceptible to develop various illnesses. A blood pH of 6.9, which is only slightly acidic can induce coma or even death.

All foods have either acid-forming or alkaline-forming elements. Sulfur, phosphorus and chlorine are acid-forming substances, while calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and sodium are alkaline formers. To maintain health, the diet should consist of 60% alkaline forming foods and 40% acid forming foods. To restore health, the diet should consist of 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acid forming foods. An acidic body is a sickness magnet. What we eat and drink will impact where our body’s pH level falls. And the best thing we can do to correct this acidity is to clean up our diet, modify our lifestyle and take alkalinized supplements and beverages.
